Overview

Here you find the mix of elegant Gothic architecture and the “seedier” side of society. A town which now must live down it’s history and regain the power it once held. Located in a secluded mountain valley home of the Black Forest Fox and Hovawart. Here you find a mix of all those who do not fit in anywhere else such as Cole’s kingdom, Ulster or Briar Hollow. Those with a stronger desire for power, or mayhaps just prefer living in a style other places find offensive.

In Hamelin you will discover those with the power are more than willing to take advantage of these lifestyles to further their own wishes and desires. No lawless town is Hamelin, those who lead and watch over the town have their own ideas of right and wrong. They willingly run the entire town in a very businesslike fashion keeping up the appearance of elegance and grace while ensuring request others may be unable or unwilling to grant are taken care of.

Hamelin and the Other Towns

Hamelin currently has a policy of Cooperative Neutrality when it comes to dealing with the other towns of Grimmwold. This policy applies both diplomatically and with visitors from other towns inside of Hamelin.

Civil Laws of Hamelin

Citizens of Hamelin who break the law or disturb the peace on foreign ground shall not be extradited by any means. Meaning: If a player goes to another town and gets in trouble with that other town, they are on their own.

Hamelin will not harbor known criminals of any sort. Known criminals will be promptly escorted outside of the city gates. Meaning: They might harbor “unknown criminals”, and they might not call the authorities, but if a player is a known criminal, they won’t get to hide in Hamelin.

Any person caught disturbing the peace in Hamelin will be considered under the influence of drugs or alcohol and be put in lock up for the night. Ordinance Note: Disturbing the peace includes but is not limited to; fighting, vandalism, verbal brawling, acts of disrespect, and excessive uncouth demeanor. Meaning: If a player, citizen or other wise, gets rowdy or rude in town, the watch will simply toss them in lock up for the night and explain they were ‘too drunk to know better’.

Those found guilty of stealing within the city limits will be publicly lashed and their wounds salted. Meaning: It would be to a players advantage NOT to get caught if they steal, this is pretty damn painful.

Known murderers, morally repugnant slavers and non-consensual rapists will not be allowed within the city limits. Meaning: Killing and Murder are two different things, note the wiki write up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder, also morally repugnant slavery is defined here: http://www.grimmwold.com/wiki/index.php?title=Slavery and non-consensual rapist means where the victim was not willing.

Those found to be consorting with Evil within city limits shall be gifted to the Church for punishment and cleansing. Meaning: Inside city limits being the point to note here, and what the church does with them then is no longer the concern of the civil servants.

Those found guilty of crimes against Hamelin or her people shall be subject to imprisonment while awaiting an expeditious trial. Should circumstances prevent such a trial, the accused is to return under their own recognizances to stand trial at a later date. Meaning: Criminals can be held within the jail for a period of no more than five days (Three days for those without alts). If their trial cannot be held within that time, they will be released under the expectation that they return to stand trial when time allows.

It is the intention of Hamelin to provide a merciful system of Justice, and thus the Hearth Mother shall act as Magistrate in any cases requiring her gentle hand.

OOC Discussion with Lara on Hamelin

What do we know about Hamelin prior to the dreamers coming:

It was a place where 'social refugees' from other towns might have came. Such as homosexuals from Cole's Kingdom, Inter-species marriages, especially human-etherian at that time out of Ulster, people practicing dark magic.

People with unusual sexual kinks, things abit above and beyond a little spank and tickle, and for those in animal-human marriages.

Hamelin at the time would have had a black market, but unlike the other towns where black markets were hush hush and people made secretive deals to obtain things, the black market in Hamelin was only "black" by other towns perception. They would have had an open view of trade and market and would have likely refused to ban or control things other towns would consider inappropriate.

However, Hamelin was not a lawless town, it was not a town of criminals, vagrants or murderers. It had law, and while the law might have been corrupt, it was not what some of us would consider to be Lethe-like.

If any kind of Mob activity existed it was wrapped in secrecy and likely controlled strongly by upper officials and noble men.

Hamelin was a place where men of great lineage came, men who might have been shamed, or not quite 'fit' in their family, or even young men who came to seek their fortune with the intent of going home. At a time when Ulster was the GREAT CITY, much like London, Hamelin would have been Indian to England, or New Orleans to France.

In such case, you would see the same kind of social continuity. Hamelin, especially in the beginning was a rough place, its high in the mountains, winters are harsh. It is smack in the middle of what was the Giant Kingdom, and raids by less then neutral Giants was common. Thus you would see these great men still continuing to dress for dinner and serve tea, preserving "civilization" even in such a harsh environment.

Who might we find in Hamelin when we arrive:

Hamelin will be mostly deserted at the time the dreamers arrive, but it will not be completely empty. There may be dark wizards or witches who have used the empty city as a base for their experiments. There are likely to be undead, mostly ghosts, though vampires and werewolves would not be improbable.

Hamelin is also set in "Giant-kin Territory", so they might not be to happy to see it repopulated by humans.
